RIP Smudge :'(

Urgh, this has to rank up with one of the worst nights of my life.
Someone just knocked on the door to tell us our cat had been run over in the middle of the street, and just left there to die. How sick are some people? How can they just leave them to die in horrible pain?

It was one of the worst things I've ever saw in my life. He was totally lifeless and there was quite a bit of blood coming out his nose and mouth - very bad sign. All his teeth were broken and he was breathing really funny, plus bleeding a lot on his legs.  The worst bit was his eyes - they were so scared. Of course we took him straight to the emergency vet but there was nothing they could do, they said even if they resuscitate him he'd be severely brain damaged.

I'm absolutely devastated.

However, I still want to remember all the good things about him. He was the most wonderful, laid back cat ever. He was so friendly and loved to be with people, constantly in the garden with us every summer, or under the cover with me having a nap. He liked to hide under newspapers and ate in the cutest way ever.
Pets really do become your best friends because their there for you no matter what..

Sorry for such a bleak and depressing post, but I felt like I should honour his death :)

  3. I'm so sorry :( our pets become so much a part of our lives!
One of my cats (had two, both sisters) went missing a few years ago for two weeks. We printed out hundreds of leaflets which we posted through loads of doors near our house and posters which we put up in local garages and shops. My mum found her dead in a ditch near our house - we think she had been run over :(
    It's never nice xx

  4. So sorry to hear about this, I honestly can't see how people can be so cold blooded leaving the poor little thing lying on the street like that. So irresponsible. But its good that your staying strong and remembering all the good times you've had with him :) Take care

  8. That's so sad :( I'm sorry to hear that. Someone did the same to my cat Marmalade a few years back, just knocked him over and left him there at the edge of the road. A neighbour knocked on our door and my mum had to go and get him. I never saw him again, but it made me cry thinking about him lying there on his own. At least you know he had a good life, and you loved him loads!

  9. Hello everyone thanks so much for the lovely messages :). So sorry to hear a few of you have been through something similar :(. I don't know, I think running over a cat should need to be reported by law in the same way as a dog. I loved my cats just as much as I love my Molly doggy and they both feel pain exactly the same. That's just me though I know tons of people will disagree lol xxx

  11. oh god i just read this and it made me cry. i am so so sorry for you, my cat died a couple of years ago and i miss her.

the thing that you have to think about is that he knew how much you loved him and that it is better for it to be this way and for you to remember him as he was healthy than living with what the vet said would happen.

the best thing to do is try and distract yourself with as many activities and be around lots of people. i hope you feel better about it soon xx
